A commitment to joint working between Swindon Borough Council, Swindon Heritage Preservation (formerly the Mechanics’ Institution Trust) and GLL (Greenwich Leisure Limited, operators of the Health Hydro) was signed off today.
This new partnership will open up grant funding opportunities and support new activities to engage the community about the Health Hydro.
SHP already manage several public buildings in the Railway Village including the Railway Village Museum and are currently restoring the Cricketers in Emlyn Square.
Councillor Marina Strinkovsky, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Placemaking and Planning, said she was very excited about the partnership. “It’s exactly the way we should be working to secure the future of the Hydro, and GLL and Swindon Heritage Preservation are brilliant fellow travellers on that mission.”
Bob Wright, Chair of SHP said that “The new partnership will advance the cause of heritage restoration locally and demonstrate the viability of large-scale regeneration projects in Swindon, with an eye towards the future restoration of the Mechanics’ Institution.”
